About This Game:

  • Diltz Cup was born in October 2022, crafted with chaos and camaraderie in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

  • Its inspiration? The legendary energy of the two most iconic Sams to ever come out of Newy.

Setup & How to Play

Players

Unlimited — the more, the messier. But for the smoothest chaos, 10–15 players is the sweet spot.

Materials

  • A large table everyone can gather around

  • Two ping pong balls

  • Plenty of cups (2–3 per person)

  • A drink of your choice to fill the cups (water, soda, or... you know)

Objective

Bounce your ping pong ball into your cup before you get Diltzed (when someone stacks their cup on top of yours)

How to Set Up

  1. Place the cups rim-to-rim in a large circle on the table.

  2. Fill each cup to the same level — except for one in the center, which should be filled to the brim.

  3. Choose two players standing across from each other to start.

Gameplay

  1. The two starting players grab a cup, cheers, and drink it.

  2. They then try to bounce a ping pong ball into their empty cup.

  3. Once they land it, they pass the cup and ball to the person on their left.

  4. If the player to your left is still trying to make their shot when you succeed, stack your cup into theirs — they’ve been Diltzed.

  5. The Diltzed player takes a fresh cup from the table, drinks it, passes the Diltzed cup to the left, and jumps back into the game.

Diltz Levels:

  • Diltzed = getting stacked once

  • Double Diltzed = getting stacked twice in a row

  • Triple Diltzed = three in a row... may the odds be ever in your liver’s favor

Special Rules

  • First-Try Bonus: If you make your shot on the first try, you can pass the cup to anyone at the table — not just your left. Pro tip: trap someone already under pressure to cause a Double Diltz.

  • Missed Shot Consequence: If your ball lands in one of the remaining filled cups — you drink it and add it to your stack. Watch out for that dreaded center cup.

  • Final Cup: The game ends when the final center cup is the only one left. The player who ends up with it? They've just been Dimitri Diltzed.

Endgame

Once all the cups are gone, the final Diltzed victim drinks the full cup.
Everyone else? They clap to the beat of: "clap-clap (pause) clap-clap-clap (pause) clap-clap-clap-clap (pause) clap-clap"

Tips & Strategy

  • Cup Control: Keep your cup close — stray bounces are your worst enemy.

  • Ball Handling: Catch your ball! Every second counts.

  • Diltz Trap: First-try shooters should pass the cup behind the player currently holding a cup — it’s the easiest way to force a Diltz.

  • Rage Cage Loop: Getting stuck in a Diltz spiral? Pass your cup as far from you as possible to break free.

FAQs

If I make the ball on my first try, can I Diltz someone?
No — unless they’re to your left, stacking isn’t allowed. Just pass it to someone without a cup.

Is cursing allowed? Nope.
